Energy Efficiency Ratings

By virtue of its composition, a concrete tile roof absorbs less of the sun’s energy. In addition, the oxide used in our facilities to create our beautiful colors further enhance the tile’s surface. Listed with the Cool Roof Rating Council, these roofs can reflect more sunlight and less heat, which can reduce energy usage and costs. Regardless of shape or color, a concrete tile roof is one of the most effective and popular energy-efficient roofing materials available.

Staggered Installation Considerations

Achieving an ‘Old World’ aesthetic for your home is as easy as using flat tiles with a staggered exposure during installation. While these tiles seamlessly enhance architectural styles like English Cottage and French Country, and their unique appeal can also breathe new life into homes of diverse designs, here are some things to consider.

Ensure to plan the entire roof layout

The roofing contractor must carefully plan the entire roof layout before installing tiles, considering factors like weight and waste.

For a staggered roof, about half of the tiles have a shorter exposure. It’s crucial to calculate the extra tiles needed before ordering. Whether using battens or not, accurate measurements are vital when prepping the roof. The first course is standard, while the staggered exposure starts from the second course.

The water channel at the left side of the tile is visible

Another aspect to consider is the water channel on the left side of the tile. The bottom part of this channel will be visible, and leaving it exposed can take away from the intended appearance of the staggered roof.

This is particularly relevant on steep roof pitches where most of each tile’s face is visible. If needed, the visible channel can be eliminated using a saw or tile nippers.

Note: While staggered installations offer an appealing look, they can be highly intricate and potentially lead to layout and waterproofing challenges. The Roofing Contractor bears the ultimate responsibility for planning and executing the tile installation correctly.
